Nós aperfeiçoamos as coisas, e elas sempre pioram!"

Desta vez à POP-ROCK CANDY MONTAIN... sorry in english
<strong>MOTÖRHEAD – nova entrevista de Lemmy</strong>
If there is one figure in modern music that needs no introduction, that person is Lemmy. His band Motorhead is one of the most influential rock bands of the past 30 years. Lemmy is also a name brand, with everything from an action figure to Marshall Amps bearing his likeness or the band’s name.
With a new album due out late summer, Motorhead will be hitting the road in August with Judas Priest and Heaven and Hell on the Metal Masters Tour.
Pop-Rock Candy Mountain recently spoke with the “the nation’s greatest living Englishman” (as named by the U.K.’s Guardian newspaper) about the new album and tour.
Pop-Rock Candy Mountain (PRCM): How’s the new album coming?
LEMMY: We have all of the tracks done. It’s just vocals and guitars now, really.
PRCM: With this being your 20th album, was it a challenge to find inspiration? How did you keep it fresh?
LEMMY: Not really, we just do what we always do. We’ve got it down to a fine art now, you know? We know how to do that now.
PRCM: You recorded parts of the album at Dave Grohl’s studio?
LEMMY: Just the drums were done up there. The rest of we did in L.A.
PRCM: Who produced it?
LEMMY: Cameron Webb. The same as who did the last two.
PRCM: Are you looking forward to the tour with Judas Priest?
LEMMY: Yeah, but we’ve got festivals to do in Europe first. So, I’m just looking at those at the moment. Yeah, we’re going out with Judas Priest in August.
PRCM: Do you still enjoy playing the festival shows in Europe?
LEMMY: Yeah. It’s a big event. There’s not just one band.
PRCM: You recently taped an appearance on “Californication.” Did you enjoy that?
LEMMY: Well, I’ve never seen the show myself (laughs). So, someone asked and I said “yeah.” (laughs) I don’t know what the fuck it is. I just said a couple of things.
PRCM: I was heard that a show on HBO is interested in you.
LEMMY: Oh, I don’t know anything about that (laughs).
PRCM: Do you feel that Motorhead may be more popular now than ever?
LEMMY: That’s weird, isn’t it? I think it’s dreadful (laughs).
PRCM: Motorhead has become a brand name over the past few years. How do you choose what you are going to lend your name to?
LEMMY: Yeah. There’s a lot of shit coming out. There’s a lot of shit, so you have to be careful what has your name on it ’cause it’s going to be there forever.
PRCM: At this point in your career, do you still enjoy touring?
LEMMY: Absolutely, yeah. Your’e really going to have trouble if you don’t in this game — if you don’t, it’s death.
PRCM: How do you feel about the petition going around the UK to knight you?
LEMMY: (laughs) That’s fucking stupid. It’s never going to happen. It’s silly, you know? It was just a slow news day.ANTONIO MELÃOhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12532570814781823395noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6386077306138164414.post-4640876058415017032008-06-20T01:41:00.000-07:002008-06-20T01:44:12.720-07:00MOTÖRIZER - a capa<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3CakPMT8sr1JJoo9NXqypQjdTwKK8Qnrq3Ae6DQ2c4wEp08vC8WYlKU6Jq-8COCGdGLzSOFjbaHovm_5l3UQeWw4VhgDqeGJ_VpIaBo4tpxYVpr-OZB46ZBnI1G_9cQmcwqv0wCX6LFo/s1600-h/MotorheadCD_2008.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3CakPMT8sr1JJoo9NXqypQjdTwKK8Qnrq3Ae6DQ2c4wEp08vC8WYlKU6Jq-8COCGdGLzSOFjbaHovm_5l3UQeWw4VhgDqeGJ_VpIaBo4tpxYVpr-OZB46ZBnI1G_9cQmcwqv0wCX6LFo/s400/MotorheadCD_2008.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5213881668389181410" /></a>

<strong>P: Você acompanhou o início da Blizzard of Ozz?</strong>
Realmente gostei do Ozzy com a Blizzard of Ozz".
Lemmy:</strong> "Exato. Kennedy pegou a Marylin Monroe.

Temas incluídos: Kings of Speed, lado A, e lado B, Motorhead.
Disco em cima do prato, leia-se gira-discos, e dei por mim a ouvir Kings of Speed: s<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdbMQ2eSxyvJAtbHha4g3t4Trw3Y6BH9mK0rKIcjk878a0nEHei8b2ZjwxyX4Wu3CqpXu_2-DJ0wJPlUkntD-OoQ1CFhP2wBXsdeHGprEE8PPvnaZwi3s88ODre6swwJ7Meh9iNXZMC8PI/s1600-h/Hawkwind_KingsOfSpeed.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdbMQ2eSxyvJAtbHha4g3t4Trw3Y6BH9mK0rKIcjk878a0nEHei8b2ZjwxyX4Wu3CqpXu_2-DJ0wJPlUkntD-OoQ1CFhP2wBXsdeHGprEE8PPvnaZwi3s88ODre6swwJ7Meh9iNXZMC8PI/s200/Hawkwind_KingsOfSpeed.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5117938033309599250" border="0" /></a>om metálico, riffs duros, mas capeados com violinos e uma aura de espacial à mistura. Nunca ouvira tal cozinhado, mas agradou-me bastante.
Lado B, Motorhead!

<div><strong>I have to admit it-I've been a huge Motorhead fan since 1980. Their fan club, The Motorheadbangers, inspired my nickname....I first met Lemmy on their first US tour supporting Ozzy on his first US tour in June of '81. since then, my respect for him has only increased. Unfortunately, when the interview was finished, I realized that the tape player was on pause the whole time, so I spent the rest of the night trying to remember exactly what was said. I corroborated this version with the people that were with me, and it's pretty damn close to his exact words, but by no means all he had to say...pity.This was never published in the now-defunct Color Red. Again, pity.</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH:Since you have two more interviews after this one, I'll skip the history part.</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK:Thank you. </strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: What influenced you to start playing rock'n'roll?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK:Early rock'n'roll-Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Little Richard.</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH:What about blues.</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK:Blues, sure. Jimmy Reed, stuff nobody nowadays remembers or has ever heard of.</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH. I haven't.</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: See?</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: What new stuff do you like?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: You should see Speedball-they're really good.</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: You were born in Wales-are you Welsh?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: As far as I can tell, I'm part English, part Scottish and a little bit French.</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: Do you identify with your Celtic background?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: Fuck no-the world's too small for that nationalistic shit.Being from this country or that country. that's the cause of all the shit that's going on right now. I'm a fucking citizen of the world. Just because you were born on a lousy piece of ground doesn't mean you have to fucking stay there. If you were born on an airplane, would you have to fly all the fucking time? We're breeding war and pestilence on the entire fucking planet.</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: So I gather you're not optimistic about the future?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: Fuck no-are you? We're spreading fucking disease and pestilence all over the world-we can't even get along with our fucking neighbors and we want to go to fucking Mars to spread or disease there. If there is any fucking intelligent life out there, they should blow us to hell to keep us from spreading. We are the ugliest, most useless form of life there's ever been. We burn and destroy our entire planet and then want to go find new ones to ruin. We should step aside and let the fucking rats or ants take over-they're better organized!</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: Are you religious?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: Fuck no-it's a load of crap-</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH:What do you think is the best Motorhead album?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: What do you think is the best Motorhead album? What kind of question is that? It's like asking a carpenter which cabinet is the best one he's made!</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH:It seems like you are playing a lot more chords on the newer albums-do you feel your bass style is evolving?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: What do you mean more chords? Listen to the first album-its about 70 percent chords! I don't think I'm playing any differently.</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH:You co-write a song on the new Ozzy album (Ozzmosis). How did that come about?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK:I wrote two songs on that album-one they didn't fucking credit me for! And I did four on No More Tears So that's six. Ozzy and I are old friends and he asked me to give him some songs for the new album-I gave him ten, he used two. It's not a very inspiring album, I didn't think, especially after No More Tears, did you?TH: It doesn't break a lot of new ground...</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK:They had too much material. Most albums aren't that good because they have too little material, but Ozzy had so many songs, they couldn't decide what to put on it.</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: Do you get approached to do a lot of collaborations?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK:No, I did it with Ozzy, it's a way to keep the wolf from the door.</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH:You're a real survivor.</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK:I guess you could say that...</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: How do you manage to maintain this lifestyle of self-abuse?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK:Drugs!</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH:I guess I can skip that question then. But a lot of artists these days are working out five hours a day and shit.</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK:Bollocks! Those musicians should fucking play harder when they're onstage and they wouldn't have to punish themselves like that.</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: You pretty much pioneered the whole "Death Metal" voice and persona.</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: I guess I did. I didn't set out to pioneer anything-I just sing that way, cause I don't give a shit. The only time I ever really tried to sing was on Orgasmatron and I gave up on it after that and went back to not giving a shit.TH: Does it frustrate you that a lot of younger bands are more successful playing music like Motorheads than Motorhead?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: I'm all for anyone who can make a living in this dirty business.</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: You really stand alone as a bassist. Has anyone influenced your style? Hendrix?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: Well, Hendrix influenced everyone. He totally changed the sound of rock. The way he hit the guitar may have influenced me some. John Entwhistle influenced me a lot. Pete Townshend maybe more, the way he hits his guitar. Townshend is way underrated as a guitarist. The Who were a huge influence in England in the '60s. And Paul McCartney-he's a brilliant bassist. He can play either way, because when you're left-handed and you borrow your mate's guitar, you have to play with the strings upside down, so if you're any good, you learn to play with either a left-hand or a right hand guitar, strung either way. Hendrix could do that too-it's fucking amazing.</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: Dick Dale strings his guitar upside down, too. Are you into him?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK:Fuck no-are you?TH: He's a really good guitarist.</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK:Well he's sure had enough time to practice!</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: Is there an animal you identify with the most?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: An animal, let's see. Horses.</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: Horses-why?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: Because they're so fucking big and strong and contrary. A horse will step right on your foot and then he'll take the weight off the other three legs and he knows exactly what he's doing! Or you'll put a saddle on and they'll puff up their bellies and then when you're riding them they'll suck it back in and the saddle just slides off to one side and you go off with it. I love horses. They're wonderful animals.</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: What do you think the best thing Motorhead has going for it?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: The fact that we don't give a fuck about what the best thing Motorhead has going for it!</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: That makes me kind of reluctant to ask this next question.... </strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: Go on, ask it!</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: What do you think the worst thing is Motorhead has going for it?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: The fact that we don't give a fuck what the worst thing Motorhead has going for it!</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH:How have you changed the way you record your albums over the years?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: Well, back then we used to play and they'd put mics in front of our amps and they'd run it to tape and now we play and they put mics in front of our amps and they run it...(laughs) I'm sorry!</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: The reason I'm asking is that the earlier albums are so much muddier than the new ones, I'm just wondering how you've made them sound so much cleaner.</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: The technology has changed so much in the last fifteen years, it's another fucking world from what it used to be. The first time I recorded it was on three tracks-one for drums, one for bass, one for guitar. </strong></div>
<div><strong>TH: Now you probably use that many for bass alone.</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: Two for bass- a direct line and a mic on the amp. No digital shit, no compressors. We try to use as little of that crap as possible.</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH:You live in LA now?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: I've been there for six years.</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH:Why did you move there? </strong></div>
<div><strong>LK: The weather's twice as good, the chicks wear half the clothes, everything's cheap-why wouldn't I move there?(I notice he's reading a biography of Hitler, he also always wears an old Iron Cross)</strong></div>
<div><strong>TH:Why are you interested in Hitler?</strong></div>
<div><strong>LK:He changed the fucking world we live in. I'm interested in anyone, so-called "good" or "bad" who can change the world. think about it-one man-he changed everything for millions and millions of people-changed the way we look at everything. how can you not be interested in Hitler-he made the world we live in... </strong></div>

<span style="font-size:180%;"><strong>The oldest rocker in town</strong></span></div>
<div><span style="font-size:180%;"><strong>
</strong></span>In his sixties and still on the road, Lemmy from Motorhead talks libertarian politics, skirt-chasing and the importance of good manners
The sun hammers down on the French Riviera like a vengeful Old Testament god. With temperatures topping 90 degrees, the beach at Nice is heaving with bodies desperate to cool down. Motorhead main man Lemmy, meanwhile, is late for his Times interview. Why? He is in the casino.
“It was bloody hot last night,” growls the Genghis Khan of British rock when we finally hook up some hours later. “Mikkey thought he was going to die and he’s the youngest in the band.”
Jarvis Cocker has chosen Motorhead to open his Meltdown festival at the RFH. It’s an inspired choice, one bloody-minded English rock maverick paying homage to another. But Lemmy appears nonplussed. “Meltdown, what’s that?” he says. “Oh yeah, the Royal Festival Thingy. . . It’s just another gig to me, man. We do our best for all our shows.”
In person, with his all-black gunslinger uniform and gravelly northern rasp, Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister is half Johnny Cash and half Les Dawson. At 61, he remains one of British rock’s most enduring outlaw icons. For the past 32 years, since their emergence as a kind of hairy British answer to the Ramones, he has kept Motorhead’s primal, bass-driven sound steady and constant. The band may have peaked commercially at the dawn of the 1980s with their Bomberand Ace of Spadesalbums, but Lemmy’s steam-driven punk-blues racket has barely evolved.
“We make the same kind of music because we like it,” he barks defensively. “What the f*** other reason is there for doing music? Within that envelope, we do push it. We’ve done tracks where we strayed away from it. But if you have a good idea in the first place, why not enjoy it as that?”
Lemmy is also a walking advert for smoking, drinking and rock’n’roll excess. Still remarkably lean and nimble, he sports the same greased-back rocker hair he has worn since 1963. Even treatment for a heart murmur in 2003 has barely modified his legendary hedonism, although he admits he goes to bed earlier these days.
Born in Stoke-on-Trent in 1946, Lemmy spent most of his formative years in North Wales. His vicar father left soon after he was born, which may account for his enduring cynicism towards both religion and marriage. But he insists he bears no grudges.
“It takes two in a couple to know what happened and I’ve only ever heard my mother’s side,” Lemmy shrugs. “They were young when they got married, at the end of the war, the whole wartime romance thing. She was probably struck by his uniform and his holiness, he was probably struck by her legs and her ass. Who knows?”
Lemmy recalls his childhood as happy. His mother remarried and they lived in a Welsh mountain farm. As the last bus from town left at 9.30pm, he often had to walk past two cemeteries in pitch dark. After school he aspired to be a horse breaker but found work as a lathe operator. Rock’n’roll saved him from both. “It did one good thing for me, being a lathe operator,” Lemmy nods. “It convinced me I’d rather starve to f***ing death than go back. Some of my mates are still there, because they had nowhere to go.”
Already a face on the local band scene, Lemmy was lured to the London rock circuit in 1967. He served his apprenticeship as a roadie for Jimi Hendrix, spending eight months out of his mind on “the best acid in the world”, which was still legal. Hendrix remains a role model to this day, especially his refined manners, an unlikely personal watchword for Motorhead’s hacksaw-voiced road warrior.
“Jimi was an exceptionally nice geezer,” he nods. “Incredibly old-world manners. If a chick came into the room, he’d jump to his feet, didn’t matter if she was an old biddy or whatever. He’d pull out chairs for chicks, open doors for chicks. I do that and people laugh at me. They don’t cost anything, good manners.”
While Lemmy was earning preMotorhead notoriety as bass guitarist with the cosmic hippie rockers Hawkwind in the early 1970s, he and his father were briefly reunited. Their attempted bonding session did not go well. “He offered me a reference to be a travelling salesman, so I stood up and left,” he shrugs. “I’ve never seen him since. He’s dead now.”
A collector of Nazi memorabilia since his Hawkwind days, Lemmy is sometimes assumed to harbour unsavoury right-wing views. It’s a lazy caricature which he does not always bother correcting. “I’m not racist at all,” he argues. “I just like the decorative aspect of the Nazis. I like the pageantry, the pomp. I like a parade. The bad guys always have the best uniforms.”
In truth, Lemmy fiercely distrusts all political parties. And while some of his views on feminism belong in a 1970s sitcom, his guiding principles are libertarian and humanist. He is antigovernment, antireligion and antiwar, but pro-choice on issues like abortion.
“Live and let live is the cornerstone of my life,” he says. “I’m essentially an anarchist – you can’t trust people, you know? If you gave everybody the same amount of money tomorrow, in two weeks somebody, somewhere would have most of it.”
Drugs are another of Lemmy’s personal crusades. His band may take their name from the slang term for an amphetamine addict, but he is personally disgusted by heroin, which killed one of his former girlfriends.
However, he argued for its legalisa-tion on practical grounds when speaking about the dangers of drugs at the Welsh Assembly in 2005. The Tory member who invited him, William Graham, was not best pleased.
“He was very embarrassed,” Lemmy recalls. “He sort of distanced himself immediately. But apparently it’s been raised a few times since, by several MPs on both sides, so maybe I’m not just a voice in the wilderness.”
In One Night Stand, a track on Motorhead’s most recent album, Kiss of Death, Lemmy proudly boasts of being a “slut all my life”. His longest ever relationship lasted three years, and even then he was sleeping with other women. He recently discovered the joys of Viagra. “I still use it, now and again,” he nods. “If Percy isn’t pointing at the pulchritude then he needs a bit of a push. What’s wrong with that?”
Lemmy claims to have bedded around 1,000 partners, give or take the odd 100. But he admits “the opportunities are dwindling now because I’m so old. But I’m not complaining, I still get enough to stay cheerful.”
All the same, his views on love are oddly traditional. While most rock musicians are routinely unfaithful to wives and girlfriends, Motorhead’s unlikely groupie magnet remains single partly because he disapproves of infidelity. “You can’t keep guys faithful,” he shrugs. “If people want to get married and then run around, that’s dishonest. If you’re going to get married, get f***ing married and that’s it. I never saw a chick that could stop me looking at all the others, so I didn’t.”
Like most romantic cynics, Motorhead’s leather-lunged lothario is a disappointed idealist at heart. But he accepts he may never meet the perfect Mrs Lemmy. “I’m still looking in a sort of languorous, morbid way,” he says wistfully. “But I probably missed her while I was on the road or something. It hasn’t changed in 61 years, so it’s probably not going to happen now.”
Motorhead’s Nice show is a triumph of primal, bludgeoning, proto-punk rock. Conservative but brutally effective. Gnarly and grizzled, Lemmy is more bluesman than showman, more Chuck Berry than Ozzy Osbourne.
And after 32 years as an English rock original, he sees no reason not to keep playing into his sixties and beyond.
“If you look as good as I do, why not?” he says with a wheeze of self-deprecating irony. “I don’t remember there being an age limit when I started. Thou shalt not go beyond 59? F*** that. The only thing that will stop me is if I become physically unable. But what is there in retirement that could possibly be better than what I’ve got?”
Such are the eternal rules of Motorhead. Still playing roulette in the casino of rock. And still betting on black, every time.
